The Chiefs Are Reportedly Signing A Notable Quarterback

Although the Kansas City Chiefs are starting to get into shape over the last few weeks they have not been able to resist making changes to their active roster. The team promoted a quarterback from their practice squad to the 53-man roster on Tuesday.

According NFL insider Adam Caplan the Chiefs have added Shane Buechele, third-stringer, to their active roster. The 23-year old rookie is the first to be called up in Kansas City.

Buechele’s addition to the active roster was a surprise, considering that the Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes in good health and backup in Chad Henne. The reason the Chiefs did so was notable.

According ESPN’s Field Yates the Cardinals tried to sign Buechele, a practice squad member of the Chiefs, but were unable to do so due to injuries to their quarterbacks Kyler Murray (and Colt McCoy). Kansas City offered Buechele a deal that would allow him to join the active roster, in an attempt to keep the young backup.

Buechele joined Chiefs in 2021 earlier than expected, after he was undrafted this spring. After starting his college career at Texas, Buechele transferred to SMU for the final two years.

Buechele developed into a solid player with NFL potential while playing for the Mustangs. In two years, Buechele threw for just under 7,000 yards and 57 touchdowns. He also had 16 interceptions.

Buechele’s future professional football plans are still unknown, but he will remain with the Chiefs for the time being. It seems like the right moment for Buechele to be in Kansas City.

The Chiefs have won three consecutive victories after a disappointing start to the season. They also won four of the last five games. Although they aren’t as dominant as in years past it is difficult to count Mahomes or Andy Reid out.

The Chiefs will be looking to continue their hot streak against the 7-2 Dallas Cowboys this weekend.
