The backup plan for the 49ers if the Broncos trade up in the draft

The San Francisco 49ers acquired the No. 13 overall pick for a reason.

The team is set to take one of the top wide receivers in the league. The top-10 picks are set to be used on either offensive lineman, Chase Young, Jeff Okudah, or either Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Tua Tagovailo.

The Las Vegas Raiders pick at No. 12 and could use their pick on a receiver too, but the 49ers still look to have a chance at nabbing whoever they want. The only way this could sour is if the rumors are true.

According to reports, the Denver Broncos are rumored to be looking into moving up in the draft to take a receiver they want.

“The Broncos desperately want to add a top WR in this year’s draft, and it sounds like they’re contemplating moving up for one,” via The Draft Network. “@BenjaminSolak broke down what a trade up for a WR might look like for Denver.”

The Broncos hold the No. 15 overall pick. The team is interested in climbing the ranks in order to take either CeeDee Lamb or Henry Ruggs II.

If the Broncos were to move up in the draft, the 49ers could have a backup plan.

After Emmanuel Sanders bolted for the New Orleans Saints, the 49ers traded away Deforest Buckner to the Colts for the No. 13 overall pick. The 49ers are rumored to be ready to use that pick on a wide receiver, but what if they turned that pick into OBJ?

You cannot deny the talent. In six seasons, OBJ has recorded 1,000 yards receiving five times. His touchdowns were down last year, but he would be a perfect No. 1 receiver for Jimmy Garappolo.

The No. 13 and and No. 31 overall pick to make this happen. It  would be worth it for the 49ers, but it would be a quiet draft. The 49ers have no picks in Rounds 2-4.

Either way, Jimmy G is throwing to somebody new in 2020.
