Jerry Jones: Ian Rapoport Has ‘No Idea What He’s Talking About’ With Earl Thomas Reports

Jerry Jones calls out NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport

The tea leaves are not adding up.

Once upon a time, the Cowboys had a chance to nab All-Pro safety Earl Thomas but elected to pass. Last year, according to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic, the Cowboys had “no interest” in signing Thomas.

“Price is everything,” said Watkins in 2019.

That is why the Ravens ultimately released Thomas because finding a trade partner was not likely. In 2019, Thomas signed a four-year, $55 million deal with the Ravens. However, due to an intra practice incident, the Ravens released Thomas, and now the Cowboys are the No. 1 contender for his services.

One reporter believes that Jones is not interested, and even asked the Cowboys owner to his face. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced on Tuesday that the Cowboys are not one of the suitors in pursuit of Thomas.

When asked on 105.3 The Fan, Jones was very blunt with his answer.

“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “The only one that knows that is me standing right here.”

Rapoport was quick to respond on social media. “Gotta love Jerry Jones… who said the same thing — “He has no idea” — when I reported midway through the season that Dak was going to get franchise tagged.”

Rapoport could be onto something. After all, he’s not the only one that has reported this.

Last year, Thomas recorded 49 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two sacks in 15 games. A lot of traction of Thomas going to Dallas dates back to his time with Seattle.

When Thomas was a part of the Seattle Seahawks, it was no secret that Thomas wanted to play in Dallas. There were rumors of potential trade packages that involved Thomas, but nothing came to fruition.

Now, an old tweet from Thomas during his last year in Seattle is resurfacing and going viral.

“When Seattle kicks me to the curb, please the Cowboys, come get me,” Thomas said. “That’s the only place I would rather be.”

We will see how this story plays out
