Cowboys Starting Playmaker Set to Leave Dallas, Says Analyst

TheĀ  time with the Dallas Cowboys may be over as the gifted wideout will go free agency. The Athletic’s Bob Sturm stated that he will “go elsewhere” after the season, but suggested that Cedrick Wilson could be retained as an affordable option to replace him. In 2022, 3 receivers.

Sturm observed, “Look, Michael Gallup’s too expensive — even though he did lose half of the season,” Sturm said. He is moving elsewhere. We have discovered that Wilson is capable of being somebody’s No. 3. It is better to be here.”

Wilson has set career records in all major statistical categories through eight games. Wilson has been an outstanding receiver for the Cowboys, with 19 receptions for 280 yard and three touchdowns. Some people were unsure if Wilson was still on the roster bubble. However, the Cowboys have made Wilson an integral part of their offense without Gallup.

Other NFL teams are likely to have noticed Wilson’s one year, $2.18million deal with them. Wilson could be eligible for a raise. It will be interesting for the Cowboys to see how Wilson is utilized now that Gallup has returned to the field.

Gallup’s worth is also a topic of interest, as he has been out with calf injuries since Week 1. If Gallup does not find the right free agent market, the Cowboys may be able to sign him back on a one year deal. Gallup stated that he is eager to return to the field and “not concerned” about a new contract.

“I just want win,” Gallup said to Dallas Morning News. That’s all. I don’t worry about [a new contract]. It will come eventually, but I want to be back on the field and playing ball.”

Gallup will play against the Falcons Week 10, barring any setbacks Jerry Jones, Cowboys owner, said that Gallup was close to being able to play against the Broncos in week 9.

“Well, he looks good for the [Falcons] match,” Jones said to Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan on November 9th. He looked great, it was very close [to play against Denver]. In hindsight, Michael does a fantastic job of catching long balls. We really needed to execute our long passing game. He does a fantastic job. In hindsight, you might have liked to have seen him there. But that’s definitely hindsight. That didn’t make any difference in the way that we played [against] the Broncos. It’s going be great to have him back. He is a truly, really exceptional receiver.”
While the Cowboys are still focused on the current season they will have to make difficult decisions about free agency in the coming months. Gallup will be joined in free agency by many talented Cowboys players.

Wilson and Gallup are two of many notable Cowboys players who appear on Sturmā€™s list top 10 free agents.

The offseason will see Wilson and Gallup continue to debate each other. The Cowboys will make their decision based on the amount of money that each receiver is able to command on open market.
