Cowboys make WR move amid Odell Beckham Jr. pursuit

Even after Odell Beckham Jr.’s plane debacle, the Dallas Cowboys are one of the most likely landing places for Odell Beckham Jr. The Cowboys still have a strong interest in Beckham Jr. but the Cowboys made an eye-opening roster decision at the wide receiver position Wednesday. According to Michael Gehlken the Cowboys activated the 21 day practice window for WR James Washington, who will be returning from IR.

Washington, who fractured his foot in training camp in August, was expected to return to the field in December. The team activated his clock, which means he is on track. Washington will be back on the active roster in three weeks. Otherwise, he will be out of the season.

Washington’s return, if it happens, won’t diminish Dallas’ interest Beckham Jr. Beckham Jr. is a Cowboys priority. While Washington provides WRs with some depth, the Cowboys will still feel that they are lacking a top option to replace Michael Gallup or CeeDee Lamb.

Beckham’s decision to free agency is expected to be made quickly. The Cowboys acquiring Washington around the same time that they could possibly sign OBJ would be a major win for Dallas.

After spending four years with the Steelers, Washington signed with Cowboys in this offseason. He was hurt in his foot, which ended him from playing the entire season. However, he seems to be close to returning to action. James Washington, who played in 15 games in Pittsburgh in 2021, had 24 receptions on 44 targets and 285 yards.
