Cowboys DC Mike Nolan Has Embarrassing Moment During Call With Reporters

It’s just been that kind of season for the Cowboys.

If the 2020 season wasn’t already bad for the 2-5 Dallas Cowboys, defensive coordinator Mike Nolan added some salt to the wounds. Granted, his eye is not a wound, but the salt definitely had to sting.

While talking with reporters, Nolan had to stop his conference call because he accidentally wiped Tabasco sauce in his eye.

““Cowboys DC Mike Nolan just stopped his conference call with reporters because he had Tabasco sauce on his finger and accidentally wiped his eye,” via Jon Machota of The Athletic.

After a quick break, Nolan was able to come back and continue the call. Nolan was embarrassed, but was able to laugh about the situation. Nolan had some discomfort at the very least and told the reporters that “he feels a lot better” after getting the hot sauce out of his eye.

Nolan has already been under a microscope for the defense. The unit has allowed 30 points or more in five of the seven games this season. There has been speculation that Nolan will be let go, both head coach Mike McCarthy and VP Stephen Jones have said his job was safe.

Going into Sunday’s game, by allowing  36.3 points per game, the Cowboys were the worst scoring defense in the NFL. Despite the struggles, McCarthy is not willing to write off Nolan according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Asked if it was appropriate to even consider a change from defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, Mike McCarthy said, “It hasn’t crossed my mind. I’m focused on getting better each and every day. So, you know, that’s where we are.”

This is quite the opposite approach for how the media thinks this situation should be handled. When the Cowboys trailed 22-3 at halftime, FS1’s Colin Cowherd took a shot at defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and McCarthy.

“Jerry Jones — you made a huge mistake and it happens to everyone — time to blow out the coaching staff and start over,” Cowherd tweeted.

McCarthy is likely going to stay, but Nolan’s seat has to be warm after that loss.
