Cowboys Officially Sign Signing Ex-Patriots Linebacker Amid Free Agency

With a lot of stars emerging with NFL potential, the first season of USFL has ended. One of those players has just been signed by the Dallas Cowboys.

Christian Sam, Cowboys linebacker, was signed to a contract on Friday. After starting the year with Tampa Bay Bandits, Sam played most recently for the USFL’s New Orleans Breakers.

Sam isn’t the first to enter the NFL. After a stellar career at Arizona State, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 draft.

Sam was a rookie with the New England Patriots, but he didn’t see much action because of an injury. He still received his Super Bowl ring after the Patriots won Super Bowl LIII.

Sam spent the entire 2019 season on three different teams in the NFL. He was out of the NFL for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Christian Sam’s experience in the USFL may have helped him to get back on the NFL radars before training camp opens later this month. There will no doubt be many other players who can enjoy the same benefits in the weeks ahead.

It is not clear if the USFL will have a 2023 season. They are a good team, despite the fact they reached the finish line at the same time as the AAF or XFL.
