Cowboys make key decision on defensive end Randy Gregory

On Thursday the Dallas Cowboys received sad news about Randy Gregory, their defensive end. The former second round pick from Nebraska is being placed on the injured reserve.

Mike McCarthy said that Gregory hurt his calf yesterday during practice. Gregory could be placed on the injured reserve because the injury may continue for several weeks.

Gregory’s injury means that rookie Micah Parsons, who is a star player in the linebacker position, will likely see more playing time. Parsons’ prolific play, while filling in for Gregory, was a big hit earlier this season.

Gregory has been out in a contract year. He’s been a force in 2021 so far, with five sacks in five games. He’s also forced two fumbles this season, in addition to his five sacks.

Gregory is likely to have done enough to show that he is worthy of a commitment in the long-term. It’s disappointing to see Gregory, a former Nebraska star, miss even more time due to another injury.

McCarthy and the Cowboys won’t be without Gregory. They will try to get back on track against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend. The Denver Broncos defeated Dallas, despite looking like one the top teams in the league — an unfortunate reality check.

Matt Ryan has been playing great football for the Falcons in recent weeks. The Cowboys will still be looking to regain the magic that made them one the NFC’s best teams before last week.

The Dallas Cowboys announced a crucial roster move in advance of Sunday’s matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. After working with kickers Brett Maher and Lirim Hajrullahu , the Cowboys decided to sign Hajrullahu . This will be the third time in less that 90 days that the Cowboys have signed the specialist.

Hajrullahu was signed on Tuesday after starting kicker Greg Zuerlein was placed on the Reserve/COVID List. Zuerlein was still recovering from back surgery and Hajrullahu took over for Zuerlein in the preseason. He was flawless in the preseason, going 12 for 12.

After the Cowboy’s defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Zuerlein was again on the active roster. Zuerlein had a difficult first game back and Dallas believed they may have brought him back too soon. He was supposed to be in the Cowboys’ next match against the Los Angeles Chargers, but he didn’t make it.
