3 Cowboys veterans who could be cut this preseason

The Dallas Cowboys will have their third preseason game of the 2021 NFL preseason Saturday when they host the Houston Texans. They have been disappointing on both ends of the ball in their two preseason games. They have looked awful on defense and the offense failed to score a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Hall of Fame Game.

These three Cowboys veterans could be looking for a new team with only two games left in the preseason.

3. LB Jaylon Smith

He will be traded if he doesn’t make the cut. Jaylon Smith looked awful in preseason. He has not been able to recapture his shine after a stellar 2018 season and has even looked terrible at times.

Smith’s inept play has hurt the linebacking corps. Keanu Neal was signed by the Cowboys to compete for Smith’s services. Neal seems like the man who should get the job. The Cowboys have prepared for life without Smith by drafting Jabril Cox and Micah Parsons. It’s not surprising that Smith will be playing elsewhere in the regular season.

2. OL Eric Smith

Smith is one of the Cowboys’ offensive linemen.

His lack of pass protection ability is evident when you take a look at his performance in the preseason games. He is one of those guys who floats along the offensive line trying to find his niche but it doesn’t seem like it’s working.

Smith could be soon a camp casualty if you combine these issues with the number of players in Dallas’ offensive room.

1. CB Anthony Brown

Anthony Brown could be another Cowboys trade bait. But if no one takes him up, the Cowboys could let him go.

Numerous guys like Jourdan Lewis or Nashon Wright have performed well during camp and preseason making Brown somewhat inexpensive. All offseason, the Cowboys have increased their depth in their secondary. Trevon Diggs is the No. Trevon Diggs as the No. 1 man and other young talent emerging to be reliable make it possible for Brown and the Cowboys to split.
