Stephen A. Smith, ESPN’s sportscaster, was able to witness the Dallas Cowboys lose to the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving morning. He holds one person most responsible for the surprise loss at Lambeau Field.
Smith stated Wednesday in First Take that the Cowboys are influenced by the play of quarterback Dak Prescott. Smith said that Dak Prescott can play great and the Cowboys could beat anyone if he plays well.
“If you look at the Dallas Cowboys, so many of their issues is resolved if one man shows up and balls out: That’s the quarterback. So when I look at that perspective and I see the Cowboys, their popularity and all of that other stuff… there you have it,” Smith said.
Shortly thereafter, the ESPN analyst repeated the same point via Twitter. “The [Dallas Cowboys] problems can be solved if one man appears…the quarterback!” He wrote the tweet, hashtagging Dak Preston and a Dallas radio station.

Dak Prescott, who missed five games because of a Week 1 injury, is currently 2-2 as a starter. It shouldn’t surprise that both of his losses came on the heels his worst performances.
Dak’s passer rating was over 113 in wins against the Chicago Bears (and Detroit Lions). In his two losses, Dak completed less than 60 percent of his passes and threw three interceptions.
Although it’s not bold to suggest that a team’s success is directly related to its quarterback, the Cowboys were designed to function only when their quarterback plays well.
