Report: Cowboys Starter Will Probably Be Released

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to reduce their salary in the offseason. The team recently granted La’el Collins permission to trade for starting right tackle .

Calvin Watkins, of the Dallas Morning News says it doesn’t seem like there is much market for the eight-year veteran. Watkins said it was “doubtful” that Collins would be traded by the team.

They may have to let go of the offensive lineman at 28 years old if they are unable to do so.

Collins will be entering the third year on a five-year contract. He is expected to earn $10 million. This salary and the fact that Collins is being openly traded by the team could explain why they aren’t in a hurry to sign for the LSU product.

Collins could be released if and when he is freed. Collins will likely draw lots of interest in the open market where teams can negotiate their terms for a contract.

Collins, who missed the entire 2020 season because of injury, returned to play in 12 games in 2021 with 10 starts. He has appeared in 71 games and made 74 starts for the Cowboys.
