Stephen Jones, Cowboys Executive Vice President, provided an update about the future of Dallas Head Coach Mike McCarthy. Jones offered a vote for confidence to McCarthy Monday as he faced questions about his job situation.

McCarthy’s decision to play the football with zero timeouts has drawn a lot of criticism. It cost the Cowboys one final chance at the end-zone and the opportunity to win the game.
McCarthy’s performance has been widely criticized by almost everyone who saw the game. The Jones family and Cowboys appear to be content with McCarthy’s appointment as Cowboys coach.

Jerry Jones, Cowboys owner, spoke with the media immediately after the devastating loss to the 49ers. He was clearly not happy. Many believed that the future of many coaching staff members was in doubt after a controversial and wild ending. Mike McCarthy’s seat seemed to be hot.
Although his son seemed more convincing Monday, Jerry Jones did not give McCarthy any comfort following the loss.
Jones’s opening thoughts about the loss and, perhaps more broadly, the season were plain. He said that he was “extraordinarily disappointed” via Machota.
The offseason began with the Prescott run, and the referee snafus that occurred in the last seconds of the game. Jones and the Cowboys brain trust are making the key decision about McCarthy’s future.

Although it may seem unlikely, the Cowboys might decide to move on and try to promote internally. Both their offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn are potential coaching candidates. Jones may want them to stay for himself. The only way to do that is through a promotion.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are among the NFL’s most active candidates for a head coach. Jones may not fire McCarthy. Both his coordinators could move on if he doesn’t.
